There is a new beta release of Smart Approve which is to deal with an issue introduced by Microsoft when releasing Windows Server 2012. Normally I wouldn't be openly critical of other developers, but this highlights a key issue in compatability through unnecessary change.
For some reason when Microsoft released the Remote Server Adminstration Tools for Server 2012 and Windows 8 the version of the dll used for WSUS was changed. Looking around I can't find any actual changes in the code, it's purely been built against .NET 4.5. In my oppinion that's not a valid reason to carry out a framework version change, unless there is an issue. The worst thing about this is the lack of communication \ reasoning on the WSUS website. That said Smart Approve should now run on Windows Server 2012, although I'm not overly pleased with the code used to try and reintroduce backward compatability. This will remain a beta release until I'm happy the issue is fully resolved.
